Mark Alan Siekman
September 17, 1960 - February 17, 2016

Mark Siekman, 55, of Red Oak, formerly of Malvern, passed away February 17, 2016 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.

Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern with Reverend Carl Phillips officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Mark Alan Siekman, one of two children of Charles Henry and Beverly June (Anderson) Siekman, was born on September 17, 1960 in Burlington, Iowa. He graduated from the Burlington High School in 1979. Following school, Mark began his career in the printing and publishing industry. He worked in Shenandoah, Iowa, at World Publishing, then as a pressman at the Shenandoah Evening Sentinel for 10 years, before working 2 years at Shenandoah Printing. He went back to the Sentinel until the business sold. Mark became the publisher / editor of the Malvern Leader when he purchased the newspaper business on December 17, 1993. A year later, he purchased the Tabor Fremont-Mills Beacon Enterprise in Tabor, Iowa. In 1998, Mark began work as a pressman at the Red Oak Express and then as a printing slitter at FRESCO in Red Oak, Iowa.

On January 28, 1983 he married Karol Marie Riley in Essex, Iowa. They were blessed with three children; Wesley Owen, Mallory Elizabeth, and Brett Alan.

Mark was a Gold Member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, everything outdoors, and playing pool. Mark was an avid Cubbies fan and enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family.

Mark peacefully passed away at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak on February 17, 2016, at the age of 55 years and 5 months. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; nephew David Riley; and nieces, Samantha Falk and Jennifer Jeffers.

Mark is survived by his wife Karol Siekman of Malvern; children; Wes Siekman and wife Hilary of Missouri Valley, IA, Mallory Davis and husband Michael of Waukee, IA, and Brett Siekman of Missouri Valley; grandchildren, Owen Siekman, Paisley Siekman, and Macy Davis, with another grandson on the way; parents Charles and Beverly Siekman of Burlington; in-laws Paul and Helen Riley of Essex; sister Gina Allison (Dan) of Cleveland, TN, brother-in-law Curtis Riley (Karen) of Essex; sisters-in-law, Nancy Laska (Jim) of Norfolk, NE; Paula Vandusen of Essex and Sara Sullender of St. Joseph, MO; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
