Edwin J. Cannon III
December 13, 1954 - April 5, 2016

Edwin "Ed" James Cannon, III of Hollywood, Florida died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the age of 61 years.

Born in Savannah, Georgia on December 13, 1954, son of Edwin James Cannon Jr; and Rebecca Jane (Goodrum) Cannon. At the age of 6 months, Ed and his family moved to Hollywood, Florida where he lived up until his death. Ed attended Little Flower Catholic Church, Chaminade Preparatory School for Boys and graduated from South Broward High School in 1973. He furthered his education at Broward Community College.

He was a police officer for the City of Oakland Park, Auxiliary Police Officer, Community Service Officer and Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Hollywood. He was the former owner of the Alamo Gun Shop in Oakland Park and a certified gemologist. The majority of his life's work was as a general contractor, certified mechanical contractor and owner and manager of rental properties. Ed enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, Judo and had his pilot's license. He was a member of the West Broward Masonic Lodge 253 A.F. and A.M. Most of all, Ed loved his family and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Survived by his beloved wife of nearly 44 years, Carla (Bailey) Cannon, two loving children, daughter, Erin Cannon and her spouse, Nicole West, son, Clayton Cannon, his adored grandson, Connor B. D. Cannon, mother, Jane Cannon, sister, Patricia (John) Hellrung and brother, John (Ruby) Cannon. In addition to his father, Ed was preceded in death by an infant son, Edwin J. Cannon IV in 1983.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 8th from 4:00 ~ 7:00 P.M. at Fred Hunters Hollywood Memorial Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 P.M. by the West Broward Lodge #253. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Reception will follow at Fred Hunters Community Center from 7:00 ~ 9:00 P.M. Interment will be private.

"Ed an I had where at Chaminade it was 9th grade. When it would rain we stayed inside the Gym. I was playing Basketball and Ed was always doing his wrestling. He was a tough guy. Well he started trying to block my shots and goofing like he always would. A couple seconds later I was not looking for him but went after the ball ran smack into Ed. Well that was it I was down for the count they took me off the court. I had myself a concussion just running smack in to the Big Guy.....I'm going to miss you Ed.... Chaminade Lions until we meet again......J.C."

"Ed and I go back to elementary school at Little Flower. He was always a bigger than life individual. When we were little (Ed really never was what you would call "little") Ed was the strongest person I ever knew--and that never changed in my mind. He could have been a jerk--but he was always unfailingly nice to me and his fellow classmates. He will be sorely missed. God bless him. "
