"I'm praying that God's astounding comfort wrap you tight during such a difficult time. You and your family will remain in my prayers."
Adam Edward Gutierrez, age 30, died May 10th, 2016.
Born October 27, 1985, to Javier and Heidi Gutierrez, in Washington state, Adam first set out into the world after graduating Federal Way's Decatur High School in 2004 when he joined the Navy.
Adam was a veteran of the Afghanistan War, serving for 10 years between the USS Theodore Roosevelt and USS Nimitz. He earned the rank of Electrician's Mate Petty Officer 1st Class.
He was an Honors student first at Highline College, where he joined the staff of the Highline College Veterans Services. Adam found purpose and took pride in working with other war veterans, making them feel at home. He transferred to the University of Washington in 2015, where he worked toward his Electrical Engineering Degree.
Adam held many roles in his life, but his most important were as a beloved son, brother, and husband.
His love for his family and friends cannot be overstated, and his generosity and patience were unwavering. His effortless smile brightened the lives of all who saw it, and his sound advice spoke to a soul wise beyond his years. We can each of us take solace in knowing that all who came in contact with Adam benefited from it in some fashion, whether it be under his tutelage and friendship in school, his steady presence at home, or his joy in the world. His life is an example of hard work and dedication in every field, and with every person, he touched.
Adam is survived by his spouse, Marianne Gutierrez. He is also survived by his father and mother, Javier and Heidi Gutierrez; his brother and sister, Jeremy and Lauren Gutierrez - and loving grandparents, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and more cousins than any one family could hope to be blessed with.
A public service is being held at Christ's Church (941 South Dash Point Road, Federal Way, WA 98003) on Thursday, May 26th at 10 a.m.
The graveside service at Tahoma National Cemetery (18600 Southeast 240th Street, Kent, WA 98042) will be public as well, immediately following the funeral service, starting at 1:30 p.m.
The family invites anyone and everyone who knew Adam to join them as they come together to celebrate Adam's life and put his body to rest.
A private reception will be held only for immediate friends and family, by invitation.
The family requests that financial contributions be made not in flowers, but instead as donations in Adam's name to the Wounded Warrior Project (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/), or to a charity of your choice.

"I first met Adam almost three years ago when he started working part-time in the Veterans Services Office at Highline College. I was his supervisor but in truth, he didn't need me to do that. He was a real pleasure to be around and very good at his work. Such a great guy too! His calm demeanor and friendly smile made such a difference here. I'm sorry this happened. I will miss you, mi amigo. "
