In loving memory of

Sergio Valdez
June 15, 1963 - September 18, 2015

Weslaco-Sergio Valdez, 52, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 18th, 2015. Sergio will be remembered as a cheerful, entrepenuerial and family man. He was born in Mexico to Bonifacio and Rogelia Becerra, and grew up on a ranch in San Fernando, Mexico, his father has since passed. He was one of nine siblings, Augustin, his brother has since passed. His surviving siblings are Miguel Angel, Jorge, Victor, Julio, Ana Maria, Isabel, Jose Angel and Doranelly. All of the cousins would love to visit the ranch, especially when they could stay long, in the summer. Sergio always had his eye on a young beautiful women, whom he finally got the courage to ask for a dance at a cousins quincenera, The rest, you could say is history. This was Olga, who would later become his wife, soulmate, and mother of their four children. They married in December, 1988. Once they married Olga proudly recalls, he devoted his life to their family. They were blessed with their first son, Pedro, in 1989. They later moved to the United States where they were blessed with daughter Priscilla in 1993. They had son Alexis in 1998 and daughter Jaqueline in 2013. Sergio moved his family to Florida where they worked very hard. They worked in the fields picking strawberries, but Sergio was an entrepeneur and not satisfied with this life for his family, so they rented a field and planted their own strawberries. Later, when construction was booming, he went to work in the construction business, again, he decided to do it himself. He and Olga began their own construction company. In 2007, when construction in Florida began to decline, they decided to move back to Weslaco where they ran Olga Espinoza Dry Walling. When construction slowed in the valley, Sergio didn't waste any time, he opened a bakery, you may remember, El Mexicano Bakery. His latest venture was Checo's convenience store on 18th. Pedro was a true entrepenuer and took advantage of his talent and determination in order to make a better life for his family. He also loved baseball all of his life, watching and playing, no favorite team, just loved the game. He will be sadly missed and forever remembered.
