Ione Deal, age 89 of Ames, died Wednesday, June 15, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Monday, June 20, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way in Ames. A Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 21, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Ione Deal, daughter of George C. and Laura Burnquist, was born January 17, 1927 in Arthur, Iowa. She attended Arthur Public School, graduating in 1944. She worked as an office manager and bookkeeper at various locations including 13 years at Goldfield Community School and over 20 years for ABCM Corporation until she retired in 1996, then moving to Ames. Ione was very creative and enjoyed staying busy with sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, decorating and other crafts.
Ione is survived by daughters, Diana Stumpf of Ames, and LaDonna (William) Steil of Ankeny; grandsons, Erik (Becky) Stumpf, David (Aimee) Stumpf, Mark (Hollie Wood) Steil, and Adam Steil; great grandchildren, Alexandria, Madeline, Colin, Isabelle, Zoe, Leah, Morgan and Levi; and a sister, Arlene Lindberg.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Marjorie Salmon and Thelma Stokes; brother, Donald Burnquist; and great-granddaughter, Doria Stumpf.
