Vernon Koeppel
November 21, 1932 - June 16, 2016

Vernon Paul Koeppel, of South Milwaukee, died Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Franciscan Villa under the care of Hospice. He was 83 years old. He was born on November 21, 1932 in Antigo, a son of Albert and Anna (Heinzen) Koeppel. He married Elaine Schleinz on July 4, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Phlox. She survives.

He graduated from Antigo High School in 1951. He moved to Milwaukee and worked for Ladish from 1955 to 1991 as a machine operator in the steel stores department.

Vernon was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church in South Milwaukee and volunteered for many years with Human Concerns.

He enjoyed watching sports and fishing.

In addition to his wife survivors include two sons, Kurt (Connie) Koeppel of Green Bay and Todd (Melissa) Koeppel of Brookfield; son-in-law, Dan Gaffney of Buffalo Grove, IL; seven grandchildren, John, Kelly, Tim, Eric, Kelsey, Katie and Megan; great grandson, Jack; and a sister, Theresa (Floyd) Welch of Phlox; two brothers, Oscar of Phlox and Joseph of Antigo; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Schleinz of Rhinelander.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debora Gaffney; two sisters, Frances Wilhelm and Adeline Kowalski; and four brothers, Alphonse, Clarence, Edward and Martin.

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church, Phlox with Reverend Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
