Ann E. Radig
March 28, 1924 - July 30, 2016

Anna Elizabeth (Alke) Radig was born on a farm near Titonka, Iowa on March 28, 1924, the daughter of George and Anna (Assink) Alke. She was baptized and confirmed at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka. She attended country school in Titonka until the eighth grade.

Ann and her sister Ida worked at the school cafeteria and then went on to purchase their own café in Titonka. From there she worked at Willemson Hardware in Titonka.
Ann then met her husband Gerald Radig of 62 years and united in marriage on July 11, 1954 at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka. They shared a life together on the family farm where Ann decorated many cakes for various occasions while being a farm wife. Then she and Gerald retired from farming in 1987 and bought the café in Lone Rock and called it Ann's Café. After that, they retired in an apartment in Algona for six years before moving closer to their son Tim in Des Moines.

She loved to entertain and help anyone she could. No one was a stranger to her. She was very active in her church and ladies aid. She taught Sunday school for many years and volunteered at Camp Okoboji for 50 years. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Ann was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary for 50 years.

Anna Elizabeth Radig, 92, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Trinity Care Center at Luther Park in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ann is survived by her husband Gerald of 62 years; son, Tim (Mary) Radig of Des Moines; granddaughters, Amanda (Scott) Sheeder of Waukee, Megan (Larissa) Pray of Des Moines and Meredith and fiancée Dj of Plymouth, MN; one great-grandson, Owen Sheeder of Waukee; two sisters, Mary (Al) Schwandt of Overland Park, KS, Ida Thacker of Santa Ana, CA; one brother, Bud Alke of Osage and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, son Daniel and brothers Hank, John and George, and sisters Vollina and Christinia.

In Lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Camp Okoboji and the Lone Rock Legion Auxiliary.
