Larry C. Ewing, 73, of Oxford Junction, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016, at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, October 10, 2016 from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction, Iowa. Friends and family may gather for "One Last Party"® in remembrance of Larry on Sunday, October 9, 2016, from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. in "The Bistro" at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Cremation has taken place and burial will be in the Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa at a later date.
Larry Carson Ewing was born on July 11, 1943 in Elwood, Iowa, to Ivan and Verna (Jensen) Ewing. He was educated in Elwood and Maquoketa schools. He married Wilma Marr and to this union three children were born: Larry, Jr., Melissa and Julie. He later married Delores "Dee" Wirfs Caes on June 25, 1992.
Larry had farmed first in the Jackson County area for several years and in 1984 started working for Randolph, Inc. in Traer, Iowa as a truck driver delivering gas for over 31 years.
Larry enjoyed fishing, gardening and spring and fall mushroom hunting. He was a great conversationalist and especially enjoyed going to farm sales.
Those left to honor Larry's memory include his wife Dee Ewing of Oxford Junction, IA; children Larry, Jr. (Kim) Ewing of Walford, IA, Melissa (Dan) Geib of Sun Prairie, WI and Julie Gatelaro of Dover, OH; step-children, John Michael (Jamie) Caes of Altoona, IA, Madonna Caes Dixson of Ankeny, IA, Dominic (Laura) Caes of Bondurant, IA, and Stephen Caes of Merced, CA; 28 grandchildren, Samantha, Raya, Antonia, Adam, Logan, Kelsey, Karsten, Katyja, Kyrah, Maesi, Maddie, John Michael, Keegan (Jerrica), Kyle, Christen, Alexia, Lynzie, Tia, Brixton, Sawyer, Tatum, Stiles, Dylan, Trinity, Skylar, Mackenzie, Elizabeth and Stacie; 4 great-grandchildren, Cali, Roman, Gracelyn and Ruger; a brother Jim (Pat) Peterman of Maquoketa, IA; sisters, Ruth Boock of Fulton, IL, Helen (Jim Ihrig) Keeney of Maquoketa, IA, Mary (Terry) VanDePol of Ankeny, IA, Judy (David) Koon of Maquoketa, IA; a brother-in-law, Jerry Zybarth of DeWitt, IA; sisters-in-law, Nancee Peterman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Jean Ewing of Oxford Junction, IA; and special friends, Jim and Cathy Vacek, Jody Yarolem and Gary Bickford. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Veronica Zybarth, a brother Paul Peterman, a brother-in-law Loren Boock, a grandchild Alexandra Gatelaro, and a brother Raymond Ewing on August 3, 2016.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Larry C. Ewing memorial fund has been established.
