"Chieko was also survived by her step-son John Eastman and his wife Sheila, Grandchildren Amanda Eastman Wolf and Jill Oriente, and great-grandchildren Chloe and Charlie Oriente. It hurts that we have lost our Grandma, but we also lost the ability to say goodbye as we were told there was no memorial service for her. Some of my fondest memories include playing at my Grandma's house with the dogs, eating her cooking, watching her write and asking her to teach us although I never did learn how to write in Japanese. I remember her joy when she saw her first great-grandchild. I am sad that she will not get to see them grow up."

"I have been Chieko's neighbor for about 10 years and miss her presence. Nearly every day she would walk by with her little white poodle, a curly ball of white fur whose antics always made Chieko laugh. My lasting image of her will be as an attractive, tidy lady with a great smile, and always a pleasant greeting for my family, being walked by a funny little dog. We miss her."
