Cherry grew up in Runnells, Iowa, on a small farm with her sister, Connie, and her brother, Chris. She graduated from SE Polk High School and moved to Urbandale to start a family. She later moved to Des Moines, where she would raise two sons that would graduate from Roosevelt High School. Cherry would work at the US Post Office, Citibank, and recently retired from Iowa Student Loan. Cherry was a 'farm girl' in the truest sense of the phrase. She prided herself on hard work and loyalty, two things that she passed on to her children. Cherry spent her life making her family a priority, always taking a back seat to everyone else's needs. She had a love for plants, something she carried with her from her childhood where she would spend hours in the garden with her sister on the farm. She also loved sports, especially basketball and football, and of course, the Iowa Hawkeyes. Cherry adored her grandchildren and was happiest when she had them wrapped up in her arms.
Cherry is survived by her two sons, Eric (Brittany), of Henderson, Nevada, and Ian, of West Des Moines, as well as by four grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Connie Schmett (Kim), and her brother Chris Bishop (Janet). She is preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Betty Bishop, both of Runnells, Iowa.
