Robert Turney
December 7, 1923 - December 17, 2016

Robert Turney, of Antigo, died Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Rosalia Gardens under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. He was 93 years old. He was born on December 7, 1923 in Antigo, a son of Raymond and Ellen (Mayo) Turney. He married Dorothy Vahl on March 7, 1947 in Shawano. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2009.

He was a graduate of Antigo High School with the class of 1942. As an athlete he was selected to the All Conference football teams in 1940 and 1941.

Bob entered military service in May 1942. He served in the United States Army participating in the battle of the bulge. He served in England, France, Luxemburg and Germany.

Following military service he returned to Antigo where he worked for the city for several years.

For 34 years he worked as a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service retiring in 1983.

Bob was a member of St. Ambrose Episcopal Church and the Leland-Tollefson Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #2653, Antigo.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Dodd, Antigo; son, Michael (Susan) Turney, Summit Lake; four Grandchildren, Jeffrey (Rhonda) Dodd, Antigo, William Dodd and fiancée Jaci Monfort of Kimberly, Stephen (Michele) Turney, Birnamwood, Erin (Michael) Baginski, Antigo; eight great grandchildren Stephanie Biagoni, Gabrielle and Alexis Dodd, Grace, Maggie and Theodore Baginski, Chloe and Lily Dodd;

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond "Bud" and Charles Turney; two sisters, Evelyn Swoboda, and Dorothy Deacy.

A memorial service will be held on Friday December 23, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Hoffmann, officiating.

Antigo veterans will conduct military rites following services at the funeral home.

Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

"I was fortunate to meet Bob when Dorothy was coming to the hospital often. They both had such spunk, I loved how they looked at each other and how they talked about each other. Over the years of knowing Bob, he was always smiling and ever so kind. It is such a hard time to lose someone so dear. Prayers and Sympathy to the family~"
