Obituary - Dolores Mary (McDaniel) Delong

Dolores was born in Amarillo, Texas, June 11, 1953. Though she left Texas in 1977, except for a brief 6 year return, she was always proud to be a Texan. She and her family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1955. Dolores started school at Incarnate Word and finished her high school years at WB Ray. She attended Del Mar College and earned an associate degree in business while working as part owner of the Bride Shop of Corpus Christi with her mother Bonnie.

She was the store's buyer of dresses for the brides and the bridesmaids. This involved annual trips to the shows in New York City and in Dallas. She met her future husband, Navy lieutenant Glenn Delong, on a blind date in May of 1975. They were married in January of 1976. Reassignment led to a new married life in NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, where her first daughter Kelly was born. During her time there Dolores worked in several retail stores and did volunteer work for the base chapel.

After the Navy career, the family moved to Houston, Texas, for a six year period. It was in Houston that their second daughter Laura was born. Dolores had a home based business decorating cakes and creating counted-cross stitch designs, as well as being a wedding coordinator in her church. As the oil field businesses were collapsing, the family moved to Seattle area in Washington State, where Glenn took an engineering job with The Boeing Company. When her children started school, Dolores worked as a teachers' assistant and with her husband was often a chaperon at school events. Dolores again was wedding coordinator in her church and was a professional photographer for about five years, including repair and restoration of old or damaged photos. She lost her mother, father, and older sister and brother during her 27 years in Washington.

Dolores was diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2015, and after a long hard battle passed away in her sleep December 23, 2016. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, two daughters and three grandchildren, all of whom she loved and cherished with all her heart. Her family and her many personal friends in Texas and in Washington will surely miss this beautiful, talented lady.
