Dale V. Suckow
April 30, 1920 - January 4, 2017

Dale V. Suckow, 96, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton, Iowa.

Dale was born on April 30, 1920, on the family farm north of Klemme, Iowa, to William and Helen (Bredlow) Suckow. At age 8, the family moved into Klemme and lived there until 1929. His father became a United Brethren minister and the family moved to several different Iowa towns over the next few years (Russell, Cranston, Carolton, Moville, and Postville). Dale graduated from Postville High School in 1938. He worked on a farm for a year, and then got a job at the Farmers Coop Creamery in Postville.

In 1941, Dale enlisted in the Navy SeaBee's 6th U.S. Naval Construction Battalion serving at Guadalcanal, New Hebrides, and New Zealand in the South Pacific. He then served with the SeaBee's in Okinawa, South Pacific, doing salvage of construction.

In 1946 when he was discharged, he married H. Lois Metcalf in Moville, Iowa, and then enrolled in the dairy plant operators course at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. To this union, two children were born, Joyce and James (Jim). They lived in Independence, Jesup, Hull, and Sanborn.

Dale was employed in the creamery business since school, working as Plant Superintendent at Jesup Creamery, Manager at Hull Creamery, Salesman for State Brand Creameries in Mason City, Plant Superintendent for AMPI in Sanborn, and from 1976 to his retirement in 1985 as the Purchasing Agent in Mason City and New Ulm, Minnesota.

Dale enjoyed golfing, playing cards, restoring antique furniture and watching the Twins and Vikings play. Dale and Lois enjoyed traveling with brother Gordon and wife Lola to many sites around the United States. He was an active member of the Methodist Church in New Ulm, Minnesota, and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hampton. Dale and Lois lived in New Ulm until Lois' death, then Dale moved to Hampton in 2007.

Dale is survived by his son Jim (Becky) Suckow of Hampton, granddaughter Amy Suckow of Eden Prairie, MN, grandson Andrew Suckow of West Des Moines, great-grandog Stewie of West Des Moines, three sisters-in-law Irene Suckow of Kalona, Mavis Suckow of Indianola, Lola Suckow of West Des Moines, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, daughter Joyce, and three brothers Marvin, Luther, and Gordon.
