In loving memory of

Carol L. Jenkins
July 19, 1941 - March 5, 2010

Carol L. Jenkins, 68, of Ames died peacefully in her home on March 5, 2010 surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with breast cancer.

Carol was born July 19, 1941 in Wellsboro, Pa to Lloyd and Lucile Henry. As her father was a minister she lived in various states -- New Jersey, Nebraska and eventually settled in Iowa with Blaine Jenkins, her husband of 47 years.

Carol had many talents. Her most cherished talent was love of music. She played clarinet in the high school band, and also learned to play chimes, saxophone, guitar, marimba and harpsichord. Early in her life she realized her real passion was playing the piano. As an adult she touched the lives of so many people using her talent as a music teacher for more than 35 years. Carol played piano for services at Evangelical Free Church of Ames for many years as well.

She was a member of the Iowa Teachers' Association, Music Teachers' National Association, American College of Musicians, and National Piano Playing Auditions. In recent years she became involved with the Ames Women's Club Investment Group.

Carol also had other varied interests such as gardening, bowling, china painting, pottery and making porcelain figurines. Carol lived a full life, taking advantage of opportunities as they came to her. Her love for people, but especially her family always came through in whatever she attained. She lived her deep faith every day to the end.

Carol is survived by her husband, Blaine, her children, son Mike (Sheri) grandchildren, Ryan, Katie and Megan all of Ames; daughter, Michelle, grandson Chance of Seabrook, NH, as well as her sister Ann (David) Teague of Melbourne, FL.

Gathering of friends and family will be held at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from 3 -- 7pm. The family will be present from 5-7pm. Her memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 10 at First Evangelical Free Church at 2:00pm. Reception to follow.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mary Greeley Homeward Hospice and William Bliss Center, both located in Ames.

"Carol was a wonderful friend and piano teacher, who has been in our lives since 1992. Both of our children studied piano under her for 12 years each. Her compassion, understanding, and flexibility during all the years of lessons is what kept their love of playing ongoing. Her gift of music and the memories of her friendship will be with us forever. We love her and will miss her. "
