"About 30 years ago, while a college student at New Paltz, I stopped at the Black Bear Trading Post. At the time, I did a bit of beadwork of my own and was interested to see what types of native crafts were at the Black Bear Trading Post. I always remembered that Roy Blackbear took the time to show me what he had there to also show me his work."

"I enjoyed many conversations with Roy during my 6 years as the Esopus Postmaster. He shared such interesting stories about his life. Sometimes during his "visits", the phone would ring and Gloria would tell him to come home because he had a customer waiting at the Trading Post. Roy showed that he was a person of great character and integrity with a deep devotion and protectiveness towards his family. He also was a keen judge of other people's character. I would like to extend my sympathy to all his family. "
