Kenneth "Sugar" N. Lowe, Jr., 79, of Kingston and Stuart, FL., died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Martin Memorial Hospital, Stuart, FL. He was born August 19, 1929 in Kingston, NY to the late Kenneth and Elsie Schleede Lowe, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Nancy (Hotaling) Lowe. They met at a YMCA dance in the fall of 1949 while he was in college and she was in high school. They married on January 10, 1954 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingston.

Ken was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1948 where he starred in basketball and baseball, he then attended SUNY at Brockport. He left college to serve in the Navy during the Korean War, serving from 1950 -1954 serving on the USS Des Moines. Prior to his retirement he was the owner of the family business, started by his grandfather and father in 1912, Lowe Plumbing Heating & Cooling of Kingston. After his retirement he still remained active in the family business

He served as a Kingston's Police Commissioner, was a lifetime member of the Joyce Schirick Post # 1386 VFW, Kingston - Ulster YMCA, Redeemer Lutheran Church and an inductee in the Kingston Baseball Old Timers Hall of Fame and the Kingston American Legion Post #150. He loved coaching youth basketball, Babe Ruth League baseball, and Pop Warner Football. Ken was an avid golfer and was a 46 year member of Wiltwyck Country Club and was also a member of Martin County Golf Club. He loved to fly and was a private pilot and plane owner, flying out of Kingston Ulster Airport.

Most of all, Ken's first love was his family. He adored his wife, Nancy of 54 years and shared those precious years together with a passion for life and the unconditional love for their children, Jeffrey Lowe and his wife Maria, Kingston, Cindy Lowe of Tuscon, AZ and Steven Lowe and his wife Linda, Kingston, NY, and grandchildren Jason, Larissa, Jessica, Kiersten, Michael and Shanay Lowe. Ken always had kind words, generosity, and smiles for his friends. His laughs, his hugs, and his kisses will be forever in our hearts.

Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 12 noon. Friends may call on Saturday from 9 - 12. Interment in Montrepose Cemetery with military honors provided by Joyce Schirick Post # 1386 VFW.

" I consider myself very fortunate to having been so close to Kenny and his family.I enjoyed the invites to fly with him in his plane, The giants games and the going to the horse track with the Minasians. At the shop he would always greet me with his warm smile, bright eyes and right away would ask how my family was.He was always inquiring about my son Ira. He was truly concerned for him.He knew my wife and I had a hard job ahead and His kind words were truly uplifting.I could tell in his voice that he sincerely cared. Kenny reinforced never losing sight of family values.I remember one day in particular when he said to me that he was proud of the job I was doing as a dad he nodded then gave me that smile, and said HE must have done something right many years ago.We laughed and I told him he could have the credit for it. The reflection of Kenny radiates thru his family their is no doubt in my mind that their is a piece of him in every one of them.I think of Kenny often as I sit at his desk, the days that we use to share old stories of Kingston, The police department, my lunch along with a piece of my wife's homemade coffee cake.He would always tell me to be sure to thank her.Kenny loved his baseball, the Giants and a good round of golf, But most of all talking about a good dinner he had from the night before. He was a man still so much in love with his wife Nancy that you would think they were still newlyweds. He was very proud dad of Jeff, Stevie and yes Cindy... Oh' how he loved his little girl.He was equally proud of his grandchildren.I am grateful for his advice to me many years ago to take the police exam. It made me the person I am today. As I look back Kenny was a mentor to a lot of youths before they had a word for it.I will miss him dearly. My thoughts and prayers to Nancy and his family. GOOD BYE MY FRIEND. "

"All the times I spent with you Pop, I will remember and cherish forever. The Shop isn't the same without you. Coming back from a hard day of work, and just being able to talk to you for a few minutes, made my day that much better. I will never forget, everyday when I got back, you would say "Let me see your hands" and I would show you. If they weren't dirty, you'd say "You didn't even work today boy!" And I would insist I did, and we laughed. I always think about how we used to play catch in the den of your old house, for hours, and the fun we had. Thank you for all the great times we had together! You are missed Poppy! I love you!"
