Marilyn M. Arra, 75, of Lake Katrine, formerly of Stone Ridge, died Monday, June 29, 2009 at Benedictine Hospital. She was born October 22, 1933 in Kingston, NY to the late Garton and Harriet (Christiana) Wagar.
She was a graduate of Marbletown Elementary School, and Kingston High School, class of 1951.
Marilyn was the former wife of Frank Arra of Melbourne, Florida and the wife of late Neal Mitton who died in 1992.
Marilyn was a realtor for nearly 40 years. She began her career with Benson A. Krom Real Estate. She then earned her brokers license and opened her own office in Stone Ridge, Arra Realty. In retirement she worked part time at Westwood Metes & Bounds.
She had served as president of the Ulster County Board of Realtors and had served on the Town of Marbletown Zoning and Grievance Committee. She had attended the Marbletown Dutch Reformed Church.
Marilyn was a caring and loving person. Nothing made her happier than being with her family. Through her years in real estate, her greatest reward was putting a young couple in their first new home. In her later years, she became very involved with her son James in raising funds for "Greyhounds as Companions". This agency rescues greyhounds from the race tracks, providing a family life for the dogs after their racing career.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter Catherine M. Arra, Stone Ridge, NY, son Thomas H. Arra, Kingston, NY, James V. Arra, Stone Ridge, NY, sister Lois Driggs, Stone Ridge, NY, brother Stanley N. Wagar, Southside, AL, as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins. Marilyn was the sister of the late Shirley Day.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday July 8th at 5:00 pm. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 - 5 pm
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to "Greyhounds as Companions"
