Clarence Leon DeLanoit, 91, of rural Badger, died April 21, 2017, of kidney disease and numerous other ailments at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Corpus Christi Church, 430 North 8 th St. Fort Dodge, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating, the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25th with a Rosary at 3:45 p.m. all at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, 307 South 12th St., Fort Dodge.
Clarence was a lifelong farmer who loved agriculture and being outdoors. Like many farmers of his generation, Clarence managed a diversified crop and livestock farm, including raising turkeys. Over the years, Clarence adopted new technologies and equipment, was well read on farm issues and practices, and closely followed commodity market prices and trends. While he wasn't actively involved in farming the last few years, he did get on the tractor last summer at 90-years-old, and into the fields.
In addition to farming, Clarence also spent about a 10-year stint working the night shift at the Felco feed plant. During that time, he was a member of the Teamsters.
He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed target shooting. An accomplished woodworker, Clarence made Christmas ornaments, cradles, rocking horses and other treasures for his family. As a couple, Clarence and his wife Evelyn also enjoyed domestic and global travel, and he enjoyed meeting farmers from around the world.
Clarence served in the U.S. Army during World War II and remained interested in reading historical non-fiction accounts of war experiences right up until his final days.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn, and seven children: Marie (John) McCartan, Connie (Lou) Bratkiewicz, Clarence L. Jr. (Mary Jo), Diane (Larry) Davis, Annette (Joe) Degnan, Patti (David) Harding, and Pete (Heidi) DeLanoit. In addition to his children, Clarence is survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; his brother Walter, sisters Lorraine Steiner and Marie Hood. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Mary Therese, brothers Robert and Paul, and sisters Elaine Romero and Delores Wolf.
