Barbara Purmort, of Antigo, died Friday, April 28, 2017 at Care Partners in Antigo. She was 77 years old. She was born on May 5, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois a daughter of George and Gladys (Olsen) Purmort.
She graduated high school in California and attended Immaculate Heart College in Hollywood California.
She received a Masters degree in music education and became a nun with the Ursuline Sisters of Payola, Kansas, a teaching order within the Roman Catholic Church.
As a nun she taught music for many years at Catholic schools in Kansas.
After leaving the convent she continued teaching in St. Louis in public schools.
She moved to Antigo in 2008.
Survivors include a brother Robert (Karen) Purmort, Antigo; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents George Purmort and Gladys Purmort Prescott; her favorite grandparents Hjalmar and Clara Olsen; and a great niece.
Private family services will be held.
