Esther Harmison
January 31, 1933 - May 15, 2017

Esther M. Harmison, age 84, died at Green Hill Health Care Center on May 15, 2017, in Ames. A Celebration of Life service will be at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church, 159 South Sheldon Ave Ames, Iowa 50014.

Esther was born January 31, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Robert and Emily Hunter. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa, and received her BS in 1955 from Iowa State College. She married Herbert A. Harmison Jr. on April 23, 1955 in Sioux City, Iowa. Esther was dedicated to raising her family and supporting her husband. She also worked part time at Iowa State University. She was a member of PEO Chapter HN, Sundial Chapter DAR, ISU Faculty Women's Club and Ames International Orchestra Festival Association.

Esther's life was filled with joy, supporting her husband Herb in their life together, and secure in the knowledge that her children and her grandchildren all followed their dreams. Dreams and careers which saw them travel to all parts of the globe with her and Herb's blessings. Her whole family was gathered with Esther in her final hours.

Esther is survived by her husband Herbert Harmison of Ames; children, Kathy (Steve) Andrews of Berlin Germany; Chuck (Leanne) Harmison of Woonona, NSW, Australia; Dave (Sandy) Harmison of Milan, MI; Mark (Lisa) Harmison of Ames, IA; grandchildren, Meredith Stuart (Jonathan Schuster) Amy Stuart,
Mitchel Harmison, Tigon (Ben) Woline, Mike (Deborah) Harmison, two great grandsons, Riorden, Weston, one great granddaughter, Mirela, a sister, Mary Hunter and seven step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Margaret LaCroix, nephew Robert LaCroix and grandchild Hailey Stuart.
