Ira "Max" Milligan, 88, of Baxter passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at his farm southeast of Baxter, Iowa. Visitation for Max will be held on Thursday, February 6 from 5-7 p.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter. Funeral services will be on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church with Pastor Rollin Watters officiating. Burial will be in the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.
Max was born on October 8, 1925 in Rural Baxter, Iowa to Loren and Iris (Keyon) Milligan. He attended Independence School #6. Following school Max then married the love of his life Ruby Porter on September 5, 1944 at Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter, Iowa. The couple resided in the area all of their married life and raised their family there together. He had a great love for his family and enjoyed spending time with them, farming and still working with Mark, and playing his guitar with his band mates.
Those left to cherish his loving memories are his daughters Teresa (Fred) Schweinebart, of Baxter and Tammy (Dale) Schmidt, of Rural Newton; two grandchildren Josh (Ashley) Warnell, and Tracy (David) Catron; 4 great-grandchildren Lindsey, Danielle, Haley, and Chanse; a great-great-grandchild Rhyia; brother Larry (Rita) Milligan; special nephew Mark (Christy) Milligan; and many nieces nephews and close friends.
Max was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; 3 brothers Ike, Bill, and Marvin; 2 sister-in-laws Klara Milligan, and Margie Milligan; and 1 great-grandson Legend Warnell.
