Mackenzie Lea Bestell, 13 of Johnston and formerly of Baxter, was born in Des Moines, IA on September 16, 1997 to her parents, Jody and Traci (Richeson) Bestell. Mackenzie passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011 at ChildServe, in Johnston, following complications of an illness. Funeral services for Mackenzie will be on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Congregational Church of Christ in Baxter with Pastor Watters officiating. A private family burial will immediately follow the service at Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. at the Fredregill Family Funeral Home in Baxter.
Mackenzie lived at home with her loving parents prior to residing at ChildServe for the past 8 years. She loved watching videos, being read to, listening to music, and most of all being taken for walks. She was a joy to so many people.
She is survived by her parents; sister, Carrie (Eric) James of Lenexa, KS; two brothers, Dustin Bestell, and Hunter Bestell both of Baxter; grandparents, Stanley and Norma Richeson of Baxter, IA, and Patricia Bestell of Newton, IA; great-grandmother Coy Garton of Baxter, IA; and many aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be given to ChildServe in Johnston, IA in memory of Mackenzie.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lisa Menzies for the wonderful care Mackenzie received over the years. Also to the ChildServe staff for daily cares provided over the past 8 years. In addition, they would like to thank their family and friends for the support provided over the many turbulent illnesses that Mackenzie endured over her short life.
