Carmen Ione Kenyon

Carmen I. (Olson) Kenyon, age 87, of Bethany Life Community, died July 6, 2017, in Story City. A gathering of friends and family will be 4-6:00 p.m., July 10, Monday, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., July 11, Tuesday, at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 209 Colorado Ave., Ames, Iowa. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Carmen Ione Olson was born the daughter of Archibald and Mildred Olson on September 28, 1929, in Preston, MN. Her father died in 1936, and at the age of 12, Carmen and her family moved to Waterloo where Carmen graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1947. She married Rupert E. Kenyon, Jr., on June 22, 1950, in Waterloo, and they just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. She and Rupert moved to Ames in 1954 after Rupert graduated from the University of Iowa. Carmen was a Degree Audit Clerk at Iowa State University for 24 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Ames, Altrusa International of Ames, and Mary Greeley Medical Center Auxiliary.
Carmen is survived by her husband Rupert Kenyon of Story City; daughter Deborah (Mark) Dillon of Prescott, AZ; son Kent Kenyon of Raleigh, NC; grandsons, Sean Dillon, Case Dillon and Ryan Kenyon, daughter in-law Kirsten Kenyon; Nephews Dean Ganske, San Diego, CA; Mike Ganske, Clymer, NY; Ted Ganske of FL;
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Scott Kenyon, grandson Kevin Dillon, sisters Charmayne Ganske and Shirley Olson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church Endowment Fund for college scholarships.
