Stanley C. Whetstone, 78, of Winona died on Friday, July 14, 2017 in Winona.
Stanley Charles was born March 5, 1939 to Glen and Eleanor (Tulare-Stettbacher) Whetstone in Winona. Growing up he attended school in Winona through the eighth grade.
On November 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Charnecki at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Chain, Minnesota. This union was blessed with four children: Michael, Patricia, Darlene and Dawn.
Stanley worked in the farming and tool and die maker industries before becoming a trucker. He was employed as an over the road truck driver and excavating business for many years before retiring.
Later in life, Stanley joined the Catholic Church and practiced his faith at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Minnesota City. He was a member of the Winona Eagle's Club. Stanley enjoyed being outdoors, especially camping and he was known for being an avid gardener. He found joy in stock car racing and playing various card games, especially cribbage. Family was particularly important to Stanley, and he took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Patricia (Clare) Burfeind of Lewiston, MN, Darlene (Larry) Edge of Monticello, WI, Dawn (Roger) Burns of Casper, WY; grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Burfeind, Jacob and Margaret Edge, Andrew and Christopher Burns; sister Loretta "Susan" Althoff of Minnesota City; other extended family and friends.
Stanley was preceded in death by wife Ann (1990); son Michael; parents; brother Russell "Pete".
A Memorial service celebrating Stanley's life will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. with visitation one-hour prior at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona, MN. Interment will be in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery, Minnesota City.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Michael Whetstone Scholarship Fund at North Dakota State University.
