Madelyn "Mack" Jean Johnson
December 30, 1927 - July 28, 2017

Madelyn "Mack" Jean Johnson, 89, of Middletown died at 5:02 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2017, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born December 30, 1927 at home in Burlington, she was the daughter of Theodore and Hazel (Lister) Johnson.
Mack was a 1945 graduate of Burlington High School. She worked as an accounting clerk for Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 39 years, retiring on January 1, 1988.
Mack was a member of New London Presbyterian Church, NARFE, and a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary. She and her sister Helen had a lifelong love of farming which they started together in 1948. They purchased their first farm in 1951 and moved to their present farm north of Middletown in 1959. She was well known for raising quality feeder pigs and driving her tractor. Mack loved playing cards, canning, planning annual Christmas and birthday parties, spending time with her family, and was an avid photographer.
Survivors include her brother, Larry (Diane) Johnson of Burlington; sister, Eileen Pfeiff of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Rosie Johnson and Arthene Johnson both of Burlington and many generations of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Helen, Mildred and Lorraine; and five brothers, Roy, Ray, Harpo, Duke and Teddy.
Friends may call from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday, July 30th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 3 until 6 p.m.
The funeral service for Mack will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 31st, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Aimee Goldmeyer officiating. Private inurnment will be in Middletown Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial fund has been established by the family.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel and will be accorded following the funeral service.
