In loving memory of

Fernando Figueiredo
February 17, 1929 - July 31, 2017

Fernando Figueiredo, age 88, of Miami, FL passed away peacefully on July 31, 2017.

Fernando was born to Antonio Figueiredo and Florinda de Jesus Figueiredo in Serta, Portugal on February 17, 1929. He had two sisters, Olinda and Ilda who passed away at a young age in Portugal.

Fernando moved to Caracas, Venezuela in 1956 where he married Maria Alexandra Martinho. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last month.

Fernando was raised on a farm in Serta. His father passed away at an early age so he had leave school to go to work to help support his family but later obtained his high school diploma. Fernando worked in various jobs throughout his lifetime. He was a driver in the Portuguese military, a baker, then in Venezuela he worked in a service station. He moved to the United States in 1958 and resided in Elizabeth, NJ where he again worked as a baker for Burry Biscuits but spent most of his life with U.S. Metals Refining Co. in Carteret, NJ where he worked for 25 years before relocating to Miami, FL when he retired at age 50.

Fernando was of the Roman Catholic faith and, as part of his moral upbringing, he helped many friends and relatives from Portugal by bringing them to the United States to allow them the opportunities to begin new, successful lives just as he did.

He was one of the original benefactors of the Portuguese Instructive Social Club in Elizabeth. He was also a member of the Florida Portuguese-American Club in Fort Lauderdale.

Fernando is survived by his wife, Maria Alexandra (Martinho) Figueiredo, his two sons, Humberto Figueiredo of Palmdale, CA and Daniel M. Figueiredo and his wife Maria of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, grandson Daniel, granddaughters Christine and Michelle, sister Olinda Santos of Newark, NJ and a large extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
