In Loving Memory

Randall Kent Hamada

December 6, 1957 - August 26, 2017

The world lost a kind, loving and loyal family member and friend on August 26, 2017 when Randall Kent Hamada, 59, passed away surrounded by his family in the home of his daughter and son-in-law.

Randy was born on December 6, 1957, in Walla Walla, WA to Frank and June Hamada. He graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1976 and continued on to graduate from Washington State University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Marketing. While at WSU, he was a proud brother of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity.

Randy began his farming career with his father, Frank, in 1980 and was joined by his brother, Barry in 1983. Over his 37 year career, Randy raised Walla Walla Sweet Onions, asparagus, and a variety of other crops in the Walla Walla Valley. Randy served as a Vice President and Director of the Walla Walla Sweet Onion Marketing Committee and as a President and Director of the Walla Walla Farmer's Co-op Board of Directors. He was an integral part of the creation of the Walla Walla Sweet Onion Federal Marketing Order, which served to protect and trademark Walla Walla Sweet Onions. He was also a member of the Walla Walla Sweet Onion Grower's Association. Randy was a founding owner and Executive Director of Walla Walla River Packing and Storage.

On October 19, 1985, he married Kathy Warner and together they raised their daughter, Kelsey.

Randy was a devoted husband, father, Papa to Mackenzie, brother, mentor and friend to many. Randy loved the WSU Cougs, Hawaii, the camaraderie of being a "dance dad," social activities with friends, attending family functions, taking care of others, traveling with those he loved and spending time with his granddaughter, specifically taking her on walks and their nightly ritual of rocking her to sleep. He took immense pride in carrying on the family farming tradition. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quick wit, sense of humor, kind heart, selflessness and care for his family and friends.

Randy is survived by his wife, Kathy of Walla Walla; daughter, Kelsey Moffe, son-in-law, Andrew Moffe and granddaughter, Mackenzie of Snoqualmie, WA. Randy is also survived by his three siblings: Laurie Maguire (Brian) of Walla Walla, Frank Hamada (Michele) of Kennewick and Barry Hamada (Bernedette) of Walla Walla. He is also survived by a large and loving family of aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank and June Hamada.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wine Valley Golf Club Valley Pavilion, 176 Wine Valley Road, Walla Walla. A casual buffet dinner, time to reminisce and a lot of laughter to follow, just as Randy would have wanted.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) in memory of Randy Hamada.
