ROCHESTER, MN - Catherine G. "Kitty" Daugherty, 76, died Friday, May 28, 2010 at her home in Rochester. Mary Catherine Goins was born in Charleston, SC on December 13, 1933 to Charles and Jessie (Applewhite) Goins. Kitty and family moved to Savannah, GA in 1936 where she resided until 1960. She graduated from St. Vincent's Academy, Armstrong College of Savannah in 1953, and the University of Georgia in 1956 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught first grade at the Charles Ellis School in Savannah from 1956 to 1960. She was united in marriage to David H. Daugherty, Sr. on June 18, 1960. She then taught in the Wallingford, PA School District until 1965.Kitty was a homemaker and moved with her family to Houston, TX and later Tulsa, OK. She resided in Tulsa for over thirty years and worked at the Grand Health and Racquet Club from 1989 to 2008. Kitty moved to Rochester in 2008 to enjoy life with her family. She loved reading, walking, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, and being active in her church.Catherine is survived by two children, David H. (Liz) Daugherty Jr., of Rochester and Anne G. Daugherty, of Washington D.C.; and two grandchildren, David III and Kate Daugherty, of Rochester.Catherine is preceded in death by her husband, David; a brother, Charles; and her parents.A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 4, 2010 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1884 22nd Street NW, with Rev. Dr. Douglas Sparks officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church on Friday. Interment will be Greenwich Cemetery in Savannah, GA at a later date. The family requests memorials be directed to the St. Luke's Outreach Program.
