Mildred L. Hawkins, 85, of Rochester, died Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Ahlstroms Adult Foster Care in Rochester.Mildred L. Sykes was born October 3, 1924 in Dodge County, Minnesota to Roy and Hilda (Bradshaw) Sykes. She started working at St. Marys Hospital in 1957 and worked there for over 20 years. She later worked for D Star for over 35 years and retired 2 years ago. She married James Hawkins and they later divorced. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, and going to Perkins Family Restaurant.She is survived by four children, Richard (Margie) Hawkins of Rochester, (Renie Babcock of Owatonna, MN), David Hawkins of Austin, MN, Judy (Art) Melvin of Plainview, and Michael (Kit) Hawkins of Rochester; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Richard (Helen) Thompson of Byron. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; one grandson; and one great granddaughter.A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, June 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church with the Reverend Charlie Collins officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville, MN. A visitation will be held Sunday, June 20, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and also one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Memorials are requested to Spinal Muscular Atrophy research.
