Marvin H. Tweite, Jr. - ByronMarvin H. Tweite, Jr., 88, of Byron passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Pine Haven Nursing Home where he resided for the past year.Marvin was born on May 23, 1922, in rural Byron, Kalmar Township to Marvin C. and Marjorie (Houston) Tweite. He grew up on the family farm where he was born in rural Byron. In 1942, Marvin entered the Army Air Corp during W. W. II and served in several islands in the Pacific Theatre. He returned in 1945 to Byron and started working at the Byron Elevator, later transferring to Roddis Feed in Rochester, and then returning to the Byron Elevator. On June 27, 1953 he married Mary Ann Torkelson at Dale Church in rural Kenyon, Minnesota. He retired in 1987. He was a member of the Byron American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Veterans of Foreign Wars where he was commander and held many offices. Marvin was the first member to receive the Byron Legion Citizenship Award with a paid lifetime membership. Marvin was the introductory speaker for many years for the Memorial Day ceremonies at the cemeteries. He was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in Byron. Marvin enjoyed spending time with his family, parades and reading.He is survived by his wife, Mary Tweite, of Byron; two daughters, Vickie Tweite of Rochester, Connie (LeeRoy) Bordelon of Mantorville; three grandchildren, Chanda (Dustin) Hassemer of Burnsville, Brandon (Brooke) Bordelon of Mantorville, and Brad Bordelon of Mantorville; one great grandchild, Gavin Hassemer; two brothers, Robert Tweite (Jeannette) of Byron, David Tweite (Jeanne) of Rochester.He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mabel Larson and Bonnie Kelly.Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church in Byron (201 Frontage Road NW). Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the church.
