In loving memory of

Michael Allen Gerber
February 24, 1953 - January 6, 2012

Mike Gerber, 59, of Rochester, passed away at his home Friday, Jan. 6, 2012.

Mike was born in Riceville, Iowa, on Feb. 24, 1953. He attended grade and high school in Riceville. He then furthered his education at Luther College, Mankato State University and Southwest State University, majoring in English Literature. Following college, he worked as the Planner at the Citizens Action Council in Zumbrota. He was then employed by Olmsted County as the director of the Community Action Program for 15 years. On Sept. 3, 1991, he married Val Reburn in Las Vegas.

Mike was an avid sports fan. He often claimed he won many bets that have yet to be paid. He was a talented writer of short stories and poetry. Many people will remember the astute and thought-provoking articles he wrote for Etched in Stone, the Community Action Program newsletter. His interest in politics could always create a lively discussion regardless of your political views and which party you supported.

Mike is survived by his wife, Val; his father, Norbert, and step-mother, Helen, of LeRoy; his brothers, Dennis (Carol) of Kansas City, Mo., Doug (Joy) of Goddard, Kan., and Don (Kim) of Cameron, Mo.; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his darling little dog and companion, Abbey Jo. He is preceded in death by his mother, Maxine; a nephew; and his precious little sweetheart of a dog, Kirby Jo, who fulfilled his day and brightened his life.

Mike never walked, now he can fly!

A memorial service will be held at a future date yet to be determined.
