Glenwood A Gilbert
August 10, 1927 - September 17, 2017

Glenwood A Gilbert, of Elcho, died Sunday, September 17, 2017 at his home under the care of his family and Ministry Hospice. He was 90 years old. He was born on August 10, 1927 in Valders, a son of Gustave and Cecelia (Peters) Gilbert. He married Phyllis (Klopstein) O'Laughlin Schuman on February 14, 2007 at Upper Room Church, Elcho. She survives.

Mr. Gilbert served with the United States Marine Corps from May 30, 1944 to March 17, 1947. He fought on a number of islands in the south Pacific and was stationed in occupied Japan.

He worked for the state of Wisconsin Conservation Department and was a deputy for the Langlade county Sheriff's department retiring in the early 1980s.

Glen was a longtime resident of Post Lake and was a member of the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Post #377, Elcho and the Northway Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #920, Pelican Lake.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and playing cribbage. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

Survivors including his wife are five sons, John (Ann) Gilbert, Lyons, Illinois, Tom Gilbert and significant other Carol Peck, Madison, Ron Milbach, Green Bay, Glen Gilbert II, Houston, Texas, Lance Gilbert, Alamogordo, New Mexico; two daughters, Cheryl Dorn, Pulaski, Dawn Gilbert and significant other Jeffrey Wierschke, Summit Lake; 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Gilbert; two daughters, Rose Dommershausen, Roilyn Kavanaugh; two granddaughters and a brother Don Gilbert.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 21, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Upper Room Family Church, Elcho with Rev. Shane Wheeler, officiating. The Elcho American Legion Post will conduct military honors following services at the church.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
