Alberta Elaine "Bertie" Busch was born April 1, 1929, in Humboldt, daughter of Clarence and Bernice (Michaelson) Westre. She grew up in the Humboldt area and graduated from Humboldt High School. Bertie then attended Waldorf College in Forest City for two years and graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, with a degree in education.
Bertie married Melvin "Bud" Busch on November 25, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Humboldt. They then farmed in the Ledyard area. Bertie taught school at Ledyard and North Kossuth in Swea City for many years and after retiring, she enjoyed being a substitute teacher in the area.
She was active in the Bethany E & R Church, the Ledyard Legion Auxiliary, and the Ledyard Community Library. Bertie loved being with her family especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed teaching, playing cards, doing crosswords, farming, going to many ballgames, and spending time at their family home at the lake.
Alberta E. Busch died Tuesday, February 03, 2004, at her home south of Ledyard, at the age of 74.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin "Bud" Busch, Ledyard; five children, Susan Zevenbergen and her husband Loren, Allendorf, June Bauer and her husband Rick, Bancroft, Juliann Amy and her husband Wayne, Elmore, MN, Gene Busch and his wife Karen, Ledyard, and Richard Busch, Elmore, MN; eleven grandchildren, Zachariah and Natasha Johnson, Elijah Zevenbergen, Heather Olsen and her husband Benjamin, Derrick and Lana Bauer, Tyler and Trevor Amy, Trey and Peyton Busch, and Keegan Busch; one great-grandson, Riley Bauer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Myron Westre; and a son-in-law, Luther Johnson.
