Maynard A. Roeber
March 5, 1919 - December 29, 2004

Maynard A. Roeber was born March 5, 1919, in Whittemore, Iowa, the son of William and Louisa Bell Roeber. He grew up in Whittemore and attended St. Paul Lutheran School through the 8th grade before going on to graduate from Whittemore High School.

After his schooling he went to work with his father before entering the United States Army in 1942. On September 19, 1943, Maynard was united in marriage to Lida Potratz in Whittemore. After being honorably discharged from the Army he returned to Whittemore. The couple owned and operated the Hi-Way Inn Restaurant and Bowling Alley for 38 years retiring in 1984. Maynard also did some carpentry work with his brothers.

Maynard enjoyed gardening, especially raising bushels of tomatoes in his garden and woodworking. He was very active in St. Paul's Lutheran Church and in the past served as an Elder, Trustee and also sang in the choir. Maynard was on the Whittemore Fire Department for 56 years and a member of Seely-Walsh American Legion Post #425.

Maynard died Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at his home in Whittemore at the age of 85.

He is survived by his wife, Lida of Whittemore, Iowa; children, Dennis and Mary Jo Roeber of New Ulm, Minnesota; Janice and Roger Steiner of Prior Lake, Minnesota; Norman and Nancy Roeber of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; grandchildren, Mark, Scott and Katie, Kathy and Jon, Peter and Lynlee, Michael, Susan, Daniel, Christopher and Erin; three great-granddaughters, a brother Melvin and Wilma Roeber of Whittemore and sister-in-law, Vera Roeber of Whittemore and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wilbur; two sisters, Linda Baas and Anna Louise Roeber and brother-in-law, Lester Baas.
