Amorita Margaret Menke was born on May 12, 1911, at Bancroft, Iowa, to Nicholas J. and Belle Pauly Schiltz. She attended St. John's Catholic School in Bancroft and Mankato Business College. Amorita was married to Alfred F. Menke on May 1, 1935, at Bancroft. The couple farmed at Bancroft, Ledyard and Fenton from 1936 until 1977. They retired and moved into Bancroft. Amorita's husband, Alfred preceded her in death on January 12, 2002.
Amorita was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft, where she was a member of the Altar Society and the C. D. of A. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, quilting and baking chocolate chip cookies, but her greatest enjoyment in life was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Amorita died on Thursday, April 7, 2005, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bancroft, where she had been a resident since November 26, 2004. She was 93.
Amorita is survived by her children, Carol Madson, Britt, Iowa, Harold Menke and wife, Barbara, Bancroft, Iowa, Joyce Hatten, Bancroft, Iowa, Ken Menke and wife, Mary, Ledyard, Iowa, Billy Menke and wife, Barb, Bancroft, Iowa, Lynn Lynch and husband, Roman, Ames, Iowa and Shirley McCarthy and husband, Denny, Bancroft, Iowa. Also surviving are 50 grandchildren, 77 great grandchildren, her son-in-law, LeRoy Wesselman, Webster City, Iowa, her sister-in-law, Gertrude Schiltz, Bancroft, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Jane Wesselman, 2 sons-in-law, Holger Madson and Tom Hatten, 1 grandson, Paul Menke, 1 granddaughter, Noreen Madson, 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
