Raymond E. Walker

Raymond Edward Walker was born October 9, 1918 in rural Algona to Archie B. and Violet (Rich) Walker. Raymond attended school at Lotts Creek then farmed with his father. He spent his life from early childhood to an adult on his parent's farm with the exception of four years in the Army. He served in London and Paris as a mimeograph technician primarily distributing Army personnel orders. He was very proud of the time be served in the Army. Raymond made lifelong friends who were still corresponding with him.
Raymond was united in marriage to Maxine Brethorst on August 17, 1947, in Sexton, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. Raymond enjoyed dancing, woodworking, and working with stained glass. Raymond enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling and spending time with his granddaughters. Raymond and Maxine wintered for 28 years in Texas. He instilled in his children a good work ethic and had a great sense of humor. Raymond was a "Duke" fan.
He became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities in August 2004, and died there on Tuesday morning, December 6, 2005, at the age of 87.
Survivors include his wife Maxine of Algona, children, David and wife Sandra of Tempe, Arizona, Jane and husband John Camp of Osceola, Iowa and Gary and wife Laurel Walker of Algona, Iowa. Also surviving are five granddaughters and their families, Jennifer McKenzie and husband Rusty and their two children James and Riley Ruth, Angie Rickey and husband Matt, Julie Walker and daughter Gracelyn and Amy and Paige Walker, brothers Vern Walker and wife Bernice, Merlin Walker and wife Minnie and Durwood Walker and wife Donna Mae, all of Algona as well as sister-in-law Catherine Walker of Algona. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Gerald Dean, brother Robert and sisters Irene Holdren, Loretta Broesder, Grace Bjustrom and Charlotte Walker.
