Eunice Vivian Evenson was born May 16, 1917, at Mason City, Iowa, to Edwin and Naomi (Schneider) Granseth. The family lived in Ottosen, Iowa, until about 1925, when they moved to Spencer where she went through the 4th grade. They then moved to Ft. Dodge where her father was a salesman for Ft. Dodge Flour and Feed and for Pillsbury. Her mother worked as a salesclerk for J.C. Penney. The family moved between Ft. Dodge and Sheldon during her high school years. Eunice graduated from Sheldon High School in 1935. She worked in Sheldon, then moved to Ottosen where she met Ivan Evenson and was married on November 30, 1940, in Forest City, Iowa. In 1943, the couple moved to a farm near Ottosen where they lived their entire married life. Ivan died in September 1974. Eunice continued to live in the Ottosen area until 1991, when she moved into Algona.
Eunice enjoyed reading, quilting and canning. She taught Sunday school for many years while attending church in Ottosen. She was also very active in the Ladies Aid. After moving to Algona, Eunice became a member of First Lutheran Church. Later in life, Eunice enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially golf, tennis and figure skating. Eunice always had a positive attitude and her greatest enjoyment was watching her grandchildren participate in their activities.
Eunice became a resident of the Algona Manor Care Center in May, 2006, and died there on Thursday morning, May 24, 2007, at the age of 90.
Survivors include her children, David Evenson and wife Margaret of Liberty, Missouri; Steve Evenson and wife Karen of Algona, Iowa; Jeanie and husband Steve Novota of Lombard, Illinois and Dan Evenson and Kalene Greene of Humboldt, Iowa. Also surviving are five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one sister, Elsie and husband Ralph Parkinson of Harrison, Arkansas. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ivan and one sister Caroll.
