August "Bud" Brown, Jr. was born May 8, 1917, at Algona, Iowa, to August and Anna (Peterson) Brown. Bud grew up west of Algona and attended country school. He served in the United States Army during World War II serving in Italy and Africa. He was with the 557th Air Service Squadron and was discharged in California in October 1945. Bud then moved to Humboldt where he worked for an implement company for five years. He then worked for Harold Bayse Hatchery for ten years. In 1963, Bud moved to Florida where he managed Hatchery Enterprise for ten years. Later Bud managed Oakcrest Hatchery in Jacksonville Florida for two years. He managed Musselwhite Hatchery at Orlando, Florida for five years and retired in 1978. Bud moved back to his home in Tampa, sold his home in 1984, then moved back to Iowa for two summers and spent two winters in Florida. Bud moved to Kalispell, Montana, where he married Margaret Ditsworth Lykins. Margaret died on December 4, 1999. He moved back to Algona prior to Margaret's death and lived here several years before becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Society - Algona in 2007, and died there on Wednesday morning, May 21, 2008, at the age of 91.

Survivors include his nephew, Roger and Jean Brandow of Algona and niece Becky and husband Ron Ricke of Pflugerville, Texas, as well as great nieces and great nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret and five sisters, Hazel Larson, Helen Sherman, Hannah Corl, Eva Brandow, and Bernice Johnson.
