Daniel Edward Froehlich was born April 7, 1916, in St. Benedict, Iowa, the son of Dan and Eliza (Schonbohm) Froehlich. He grew up and attended school in the St. Benedict area and in 1935, graduated from Corwith High School. After his schooling he worked for Pratt Electric in Algona before joining the United States Navy and serving his country in World War II as a motor machinist mate second class. After being honorably discharged he returned to the St. Benedict area.

On February 10, 1945, Dan was united in marriage to Alice Mae Hagge in Ledyard, Iowa. After their marriage they lived on the family farm near St. Benedict where Dan farmed until returning to the U.S. Navy to serve his country in the Korean Conflict. Dan returned home to farm and in 1977, the couple moved to LuVerne. Alice died January 2, 1986, and in 1990, Dan moved to Algona where he has lived since.

Dan enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes, stock car races, playing cards and for a short time raced remote control cars in Algona. He was a member of the Golden "K" Kiwanis, the American Legion Andrews Post #428 in Wesley and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Dan died Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society - Algona. He was 92.

He is survived by three sons, Steve and Judy Froehlich of Belmond; Terry Froehlich of Algona; Dan and Polly Froehlich of White Bear Lake, MN; seven grandchildren: Jake and Jesse Froehlich, Kelly Hill, Amanda, Amy, Julie and Sarah Froehlich; two great grandchildren, Dravyn Froehlich and Jolie Hill. Also surviving are sisters, Bobbi Ann Kutschara of Algona, Mary Lou and Roy Overton of West Des Moines, Ruth and Jim O'Hara of Morris, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Regina Froehlich; infant sister, Edna Froehlich and brother, Francis "Shrimp" Froehlich.
