Gerald Francis Walling was born April 23, 1937 in Correctionville, Iowa the fifth of fourteen children of Cyril Augustus and Margaret Elizabeth (Flynn) Walling. He grew up in Correctionville where he graduated high school. Gerald then served six years in the United States Army Reserve.
Gerald was united in marriage to Janis M. Venteicher on November 27, 1965 at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. They made their home in Algona and Gerald worked road construction for Booth and Olson Company of Sioux City until 1974. He then worked for Fred Carlson Company of Decorah until retiring in 2002.
He enjoyed wood cutting, woodworking, and fishing. He also enjoyed gardening, tending to his lawn, and traveling to area swap-meets. Gerald was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona.
Gerald F. Walling died Sunday, September 1, 2008 at his residence in Algona at the age of 71 following a brief battle with biliary cancer.
He is survived by his wife Janis Walling of Algona; two children, Scott Walling and his wife Lisa of Kensett, and Dana King and her husband David of Ankeny; and six grandchildren, Matthew, Emma, Megan, and Zoey Walling of Kensett; and Hannah and Meredith King of Ankeny. He is also survived by 13 brothers and sisters, Sr. Mary Clare Walling, LaVonne Vining and husband Wyman, Doris Lehmann and husband Dick, Lois Kessenich and husband John, Cyril Walling, Charles Walling and wife Rita, Fr. Lawrence Walling, Patricia Velasquez, Mary Berg and husband Ron, Ronald Walling and wife Becky, Maureen Walling, Marcella White and husband Chris and Dennis Walling and wife Julie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Sheila in infancy.
