Shirley Marguerite Shaw was born October 29, 1923 at Fenton, Iowa daughter of Emil Joseph and Esther (Newel) Frank. She attended country school graduating from Fenton High School and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. Shirley worked in Des Moines from 1942 until 1945.
On October 28, 1945 Shirley was united in marriage to Donald Shaw. In 1949 they moved to and farmed her family farm near Fenton until retiring in 1980. She and Don enjoyed 21 winters in Alamo, Texas.
Shirley was a lifetime and active member of the Fenton Methodist Church as well as many other organizations. She worked until retirement at the Lone Rock Bank as a bookkeeper and associate cashier. Shirley enjoyed all music and played the violin her entire life. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, traveling, bird watching, playing cards, reading, and especially loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley M. Shaw died Friday, October 10, 2008 at her residence in rural Fenton at the age of 84.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol Meehan and her husband John of White Bear Lake, MN, a son, John Shaw and his wife Gerene of Fenton; a daughter-in-law, Janelle Shaw Thorson of Harmony, MN; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Schiltz of San Diego, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald on August 15, 2002; a son Richard in 1980; and two sisters, Phyllis Johansen and Virginia Klinger; and one great-grandchild.
According to her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Iowa Anatomical Department for scientific research.
