Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Algona with military honors conducted by the Hagg-Turner American Legion Post # 90 and the VFW Post # 2541.
Robert Rinehart Richter was born on May 14, 1920 to Rinehart and Rachel (Jenkins) Richter at Algona, Iowa. He moved with his parents to Fort Dodge where he attended the Pleasant Valley School. They moved to Solway, Minnesota in 1933 where he finished school. Robert has lived in Bagley, Stachfield, Pine City, and Braham, Minnesota farming with his parents.
Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force at Fort Snelling, MN in 1942 and took his basic training in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was stationed at Gowen Field in Boise, ID and Davis Monahan Field in Tucson, AZ. He attended Mechanic School at White Motor School in Cleveland, OH and then was sent to a Base in Seattle, WA before finishing is assignment in the Mechanics Division Holding Company in Alamogordo, NM. He was a sergeant at the time of his discharge.
Robert and Mildred T. Boeckholt met after he got out of the service and were married August 29, 1946 at First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center. Four sons were born to this union. Robert was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Algona and the Hagg-Turner American Legion Post # 90 for the past 39 years. They moved to a farm near Titonka and worked as a hired hand. In 1951, they moved to their own farm north of Wesley until 1957 when the began farming near Burt retiring in 1991 and moving into Algona. Robert also drove truck for Lotts Creek Cheese Factory while farming and following retirement he helped neighboring farmers during the harvest. Robert enjoyed dancing, woodworking, and watching rodeos and bull riding. He had a special admiration for black Percheron draft horses.
Robert R. Richter died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at the Algona Manor Care Center, at the age of 88. He had been a resident there since June, 2008.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred of Algona; four sons, Kenneth and his wife Deborah of Fairhope, AL, Dennis and his wife Tonjia of Dadeville, AL, Leslie and his wife Lavonne of Toledo, IA, and Harlan and his wife Laura of Algona; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Imogene Boeckholt of Buffalo Center; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Arthur and Elwood Richter.
