Lillie Mae Garrett Hall was born, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, on January 21, 1925, to the late John Anderson Garrett and Lila Ann Harris Robertson Garrett. She was the 11th and last child of John Garrett and the 4th and last child of Lila Harris Robertson Garrett. Lillie graduated salutatorian, from the class of 1944 at BCTS High School, in Shelbyville, and later attended Tennessee State University and IUPUI. In 1946, she married Raymond Hall, a 5 bronze Star recipient, U.S. Army, and moved her two sons, John Raymond Hall, Indiana HUD Director and former Deputy Mayor of Indianapolis, and Bernard Nathaniel Hall, Sr., Lilly employee and Actor, to Bordeaux, France. Upon dissolution of this marriage, Lillie then moved her mother and two sons to Indianapolis, where she worked at Indiana Gear Works, 7&11 Stores, and retired after 20 years with DFAS. A very early member of Bellview Baptist Church in Shelbyville, she joined Barnes UMC, in Indianapolis, in 1944. Lillie was preceded in death by all her siblings and her youngest son, Bernard Nathaniel Hall, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories, son, John Raymond Hall; three grandsons, Michael E. Hall, Stephen A. Trahan Milier (Cherise) (NY), Bernard Nathaniel Hall, Jr., (MN); sister-in-law, Frances Gordon Robertson (TN); nieces, Gail Pitts (GA), Mary Bishop, Venus Jones, Blondina Garrett, Frances Trotter (PA), Frances Bowie (NJ), Virginia (Russell) Brooks (TN), Geneva Byers (ILL), Willow Mai (Lindsay) Campbell (TN), Willow Jean (Gene) Harris (TN); nephews, Anderson (Valerie) Buchanan (TN), Martin Garrett, Lee (Mary) Garrett (TN), Eugene Garrett (MD), Joe (Nancy) Harris (TN); special friends, Edna Rowley, Cora Brinkley, Elnora Wisdom, Elizabeth Taylor, Gwen Forte, Patricia L. Conner, and Leslie Winnings, and other daughters, Jean Griffin (GAl, Diane Tucker, Verna Washington, and Carolyn Shaw, Millie Johnston (IN) and her cousin and college roommate, Mae Alice Sims (ILL); along with a host of cousins and friends.
