Mr. Felix Lumpkins was born to Isaac and Frances Lumpkins on December 17, 1930. Raised in Wynne, Arkansas he attended the public grade school and Childress Vocational High School.
Around the age of sixteen Felix confessed his faith in Christ while a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Wynne, Arkansas. He later changed his membership to St. Mary C.M.E. Church, also in Wynne, Arkansas, where his family was attending. While living in Indianapolis, Indiana he was a faithful member of Forest Manor United Methodist Church where he served as a member on the usher board.
Felix relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana where he began his career at Richard Roudebush VA Hospital in 1956. He worked in the transportation department which allowed him to be out of the building while making deliveries. He married in 1959 and from that union he had four children but was the father to six; Jocalyn, Patrice, Jana, Felix DeWan, Terri, and Bryant. After thirty years of service, Felix retired from VA Hospital on June 27, 1986. However, soon after retirement, he became bored with the leisure life and began career in the retail business. He worked at the Fashion Boutique for several years before working at Jacobson’s Department Store where he remained until the store closed in 2002.
As a child Felix enjoyed building things. This continued into his adult life where he would spend time working with wood and creating figurines. Joining the quarter that included his brothers; Andrew, Willie and cousins the tucker brothers, Felix sang baritone. During his seven years as a member of the Soul Survival Social club he enjoyed the annual fund raising events such as the New Year’s Eve dance, the trips to the Ohio Jazz Festival, as well as the many matiness that the club hosted.
Mr. Felix Lumpkins departed this life at the age of 84 on August 12, 2015 while a resident of Westminster Village North Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his father, Isaac Lumpkins Sr.; mother, Frances Lumpkins, brothers, Omega Lumpkins, Roosevelt Lumpkins, Isaac Lumpkins Jr., and Sister Hester Lumpkins-Tuggle. He leaves to cherish his memory are children Jocalyn (Alphonso) Spearman, Patrice (James) Kendrick, Jana Lumpkins, Felix DeWan (Tina) Lumpkins, Terri Moore, Bryant (Felicia) Moore. His sisters Viola Lumpkins-Maggett and Louise Lumpkins-Scott and brothers Luther Lumpkins, Andrew (Felicia) Lumpkins, Willie (Lodeana) Lumpkins, and Luke White; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
