Arnold Friedrich Hinz was born December 1, 1911, on the family farm in rural LuVerne, Iowa, the son of Michael and Amanda (Schmidt) Hinz. He grew up on the farm and attended the Lutheran School in LuVerne. After his schooling he began farming.

On October 9, 1940, Arnold was united in marriage to Esther Naefke at Farnhamville, Iowa. After their marriage they remained living in Farnhamville until moving to LuVerne in March of 1946, where he continued farming and living until entering the Long Term Care Unit in Humboldt in August of 2007.

Arnold enjoyed fishing, traveling and reading his Bible. He was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church serving as an Elder, on the finance committee and on the Lutheran School Board.

Arnold died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, in the Long Term Care Unit at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt. He was 97.

He is survived by his children, Edith Halder of Livermore; Eldon and Karen Hinz of Rosemount, MN; Elmer Hinz of Livermore; Esther and Darrel Killham of Marion; Erna Adam of Humboldt; Elaine and Elmer Riggert of Whittemore; Eunice and Marlin Beckwith of Apple Valley, MN; Ellis Hinz of LuVerne; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Emma and Melvin Bratland of Milford; Walter Hinz of LuVerne; Dora Tofteberg of Bode; Elise and Jim Abel of Kasson, MN; Lois Palsic of Osage; Norman and Sandra Hinz of Algona, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Esther; three brothers, Henry, Eldon and Clarence Hinz; two sisters, Bertha Naefke and Luella Wehrspan.
