Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Bancroft, with military honors conducted by the McKinnon American Legion Post # 377, Bancroft.
Michael Marvin Leners was born July 8, 1932 on the family farm near Algona, son of John Michael and Frances (Fude) Leners. He grew up on a farm near Emmetsburg and attended school in Emmetsburg. Mike then served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict being stationed in Georgia.
Mike was united in marriage to Theresa Heiar on November 18, 1957 at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft. They farmed near Graettinger and Ledyard area and settled on the Heiar family farm north of Bancroft.
Mike loved being with his family especially enjoying caring for his grandbabies. He enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends, hunting and fishing. Mike also enjoyed farming and had a fondness for antique tractors. Mike was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the McKinnon American Legion Post # 377 in Bancroft.
Michael Leners died Sunday, May 9, 2010 at his home at the age of 77.
He is survived by wife of 52 years, Theresa, his mother, Frances Leners of Emmetsburg; seven children, David Leners and his wife Dodie of Bettendorf, Marie Hrubes and her husband Gaylord of Buckingham, Carol Miller of Oakfield, WI, Bill Leners and his wife Carolyn of Lakeview, Ken Leners and his wife Kathy of Apple Valley, MN, Agnes Elsbecker and her husband Jay of Gilbert, AZ, and Barb Foertsch and her husband Alan of Clive; 18 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by two brothers, Joseph "Bud" Leners and his wife Lavern of Montgomery, TX, and Vince Leners and his wife Mary Ellen of Emmetsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; a granddaughter, Shannon Elsbecker; a sister, Karen Leners; and two brothers, John and Jim Leners.
