Fidelis Lena Frideres was born December 22, 1921 in Ottosen, the daughter of John and Susanna (Etringer) Thilges. She grew up on a farm Southwest of West Bend attending school in West Bend through the 10th grade.
Fidelis was married to Clarence Frideres on May 14, 1946 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend. They farmed in the St. Joe, West Bend, Whittemore, and LuVerne area moving into Algona in the fall of 1981 and retiring from farming shortly there after. They enjoyed wintering for 25 years in La Feria, Texas.
Fidelis enjoyed helping on the farm, canning, and gardening. She also enjoyed cooking, quilting, and playing cards. Fidelis was a member of several card clubs, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and St. Cecelia Catholic Church.
Fidelis Lena Frideres died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Algona Manor at the age of 88. She had been a resident there since February, 2009.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years Clarence Frideres of Algona; four children, Betty Hayek and her husband John of Clutier, Richard Frideres and his special friend Pat of West Bend; Arlo Frideres and his special friend Deb of Denison, and Dean Frideres and his wife Linda of LuVerne; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother Edwin Thilges and his wife Thelma of West Bend; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Frideres; four sisters, Regina Gartner, Maureen Besch, Lucille Bormann, and Alice Gartner; and four brothers, Felix, Clarence, Melvin, and Sylvester Thilges.
