Gary James Stratmann
January 9, 1961 - November 9, 2017

Gary James Stratmann, 56, of Latimer, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa, under the care of Hospice of North Iowa.

He was born January 9, 1961, in Hampton, Iowa, to Arnold and Lois (Kroeger) Stratmann. Gary graduated from CAL Community School. He then continued his education at Hawkeye Community College, Mesa Community College and received his Bachelor's degree from Northern Arizona University. Gary was united in marriage to Jan Johansen on August 15, 1981, at Morgan Methodist Church in Dows, Iowa. He was a teacher at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Latimer, and most recently worked as a Frito Lay route salesman.

Gary was a member of the Latimer Community Club, city council, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer and was a proud Republican supporter. He was also the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery sexton.

Gary loved spending time with his grandkids, family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, camping, gardening, yard work and tinkering in his woodshop. Gary looked forward to his trip with his siblings (KLAGUS4TOUR), Friday night double date nights at Mother's and going to coffee with his Dudley's ladies group. He also enjoyed reading, history, Fox News, making up corny jokes and talking politics with anyone willing to take him on.

Gary is survived by his wife Jan Stratmann of Latimer, son Josh (Crystal) Stratmann of Ventura, son Trevor (Jessie) Stratmann of Plymouth, Minnesota, parents Arnold and Lois Stratmann of Hampton, brother Keith (Kelley) Stratmann of Tonopah, Arizona, brother Al (Jennifer) Stratmann of Hillsboro, Ohio, sister Linda (Mark) Moddermann of Cedar Falls, grandchildren Jemma, Asher, Emmet and Oliver, uncle and godfather Kenneth Keehn of Hampton, father-in-law Gerald (Colleen) Johansen of Eagle Grove, mother-in-law Nancy Harkema of Latimer, along with many extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Carl and Emma Stratmann, maternal grandparents Paul and Edna Kroeger, aunts Iona, Elna and Norma, uncles Orville and Darrel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran School or Hospice of North Iowa.
