In loving memory of

Katherine E Scheu
November 1, 1985 - December 5, 2017

Katherine E. "Katie" Scheu, born in Kingston, NY on November 1, 1985, was the beloved daughter of Otto and Hermine Scheu.
For all those who knew her, Katie was a beautiful woman, inside and out.
Katie valued education, and was a high achiever in all of her academic pursuits. She graduated with honors from Saugerties High School. Katie graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors in Biology from Skidmore College, with a minor in Asian Studies, and was a member of the National Honor Society of Phi Beta Kappa. Following graduation, she taught English to university students while living in China. She was awarded the Axelrod Fellowship at SUNY Albany, and achieved her Master's degree in Public Health.
Katie was defined by her remarkable love and care for others, always putting loved ones and friends before herself. A truly giving and selfless woman, she freely expressed her love and devotion to family. Katie was deeply dedicated to her grandparents, parents, and to her beautiful baby boy Otto. Her fiancé Chris, the father of Otto, described Katie as the sweetest, kindest person you would ever meet, always looking out for the best interest of others. She was known for her bright and sunny personality, compassion, and her wonderful sense of humor. Katie loved to laugh, make others laugh, and her beautiful smile made everyone feel loved.
Katie loved the ocean and experienced a double rainbow on the beach with Chris the day before they learned they were expecting their son Otto. She was a wonderful mother and brought her son so much joy. Katie also enjoyed hiking and kayaking with Chris, spending time with her miniature schnauzers, and tending to a variety of plant life. She was an animal lover, and an avid volunteer.
She is survived by her loving mother, Hermine K. Scheu of Saugerties; her fiancé, Christopher Cupernall and his family, and their son Otto Ernest Scheu Cupernall; siblings Amy Bujak, Lisa Scheu, and Adam Scheu; "Aunties" Krista L. Keyser and Gina M. Pambianchi; uncle Eric and aunt Beth Keyser; uncle Billy and aunt Kathy Keyser; aunts Elsie Howe and Trudy Battaly; and loving nieces, cousins, and long-time friends. She is predeceased by her father, Otto Scheu.
To honor Katie's love of animals, you may donate to Catskill Animal Sanctuary, 316 Old Stage Road Saugerties, NY 12477 www.casanctuary.org/

Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, the family will receive their friends on Sunday from 2 - 5 pm. A Celebration of Katie's Life will be Monday, 11 am at the funeral home.
