Roger John Underwood, 60, of Keokuk, died at 6:15 PM Friday, July 14, 2006 at Keokuk Area Hospital.
Mr. Underwood was born September 23, 1945 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of John Wesley and Edythe L. Miller Underwood. He married Carolyn Miller on May 22, 1974 in Carthage, Illinois. He had lived in Keokuk since 1966 and had been employed at Lee County Home, Keokuk Die Castings and then for 22 years as a custodian for Keokuk Community School District. He was a member of AFSCME Labor Union. He enjoyed gardening and projects around the house. He loved being with his grandchildren and loved animals, especially dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Underwood of Keokuk; a daughter, Jamie Austin and her husband, Brad, of Keokuk; a niece who made her home with them, Wendy Canida and her husband, Mike, of Montrose, Iowa; three grandchildren, Zachary Horner, Koressa Morgan and Sadie Morgan; two brothers, Richard S. Underwood and his wife, Vicki, of Baker, Florida and Charles W. Underwood and Peggy Kranda of Ft. Madison, Iowa; three sisters, Shirley Hunter and her husband, Gary, of New London, Iowa, Nancy Underwood of Ft. Madison, Iowa and Bonnie White and her husband, Michael, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; an aunt, Margaret Culler of New London, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Roger's life was July 19, 2006, from 5:00 to 8:00 at DeJong's Funeral Home.
His body has been cremated and there will be no formal services.
Memorials may be made in Roger's name to Keokuk Community School District.
